In March 2026, WordPress 6.9.2 and 6.9.3 addressed security issues and a template-loading bug. On March 11, the WordPress Security Team released 6.9.4 after finding that some fixes had not been fully applied. The project recommended updating because 6.9.4 was a security release.
What site owners should do
- Sign in to WordPress and open Dashboard → Updates.
- Check the installed version and whether an update remains available.
- Review your host’s backup and update workflow, then apply the available supported update.
- Afterward, confirm the dashboard reports the expected version and test the public site.
Some sites apply eligible minor and security releases automatically. Still verify the resulting version, especially if automatic updates are disabled, the site is behind a maintenance window, or an update notification remains visible.
This release is a historical example. WordPress versions have advanced since March. Use the official release information to identify the current update appropriate for your site, rather than installing an old version mentioned in a past advisory.
